Club History

The Steuben Stamp Club held its first public meeting on Columbus Day, Oct. 11, 1987, at the YMCA building in Hornell. Former member Willett McCarty and Dan Milliman, who was then managing editor of Stamps magazine, organized the first meeting. A special cachet was produced and was canceled on that day and was given to each one in attendance.

Our first newsletter, The Stamp Bugs, was published December 1987. On April 30, 1989 the club issued its first public cachet in conjunction with the 200th Inaugural Anniversary of George Washington. The cachet theme was “George to George 1789-1989.”

In October 1987 the club became an APS chapter. In June 1997 we established a stamp club library. In Oct 1997 the club celebrated its 10th Anniversary with a special commemorative publication.

The club disbanded on December 10, 2007.
